Be Deliberate in Judgement
(Based on the commentary of Rav Yitzhok Isaac of Komarna)
The Baal Shem Tov explained that when one sees something corrupt in another, that he has committed a grave sin, he should judge him favorably that he sinned because he could not overcome the temptation, or does not appreciate the gravity of the sin. By doing so the person protects himself from punishment because if he sees something corrupt in another it is a sign that he has the same corruption. There are forces lining up against him because of his own corruption and if he finds a way to judge his friend favorably, he will be judged favorably as well. Any divine decree upon a person is a result of the person'
s own declaration of guilt and sentencing. Needless to say if he was aware that he was the target he would always judge favorably, so they show him someone else who is acting in a similar manner to himself and after he rules on the other the ruling is applied to him.
