The Gemara contrasts the attitude of a person who sells something with the attitude of Hashem. When a person sells his personal property the seller is sad and the buyer is happy, however, when Hashem gave the Torah to the Jewish nation He was happy. The Gaon of Vilna asks in his commentary on Shir HaShirim that the contrast seems to be invalid. In the case of a person selling something of course he is saddened, he no longer has what he sold. But when Hashem gave the Torah to the Jewish people He still had the ability to study the Torah, He didn't lose it. Of course he isn't sad!
The GRA explains that after giving the Torah it is no longer accessible to Hashem as it once was, this is because when Hashem says a Halacha he says it in the name of the one of the Sages, he does not say a new Halacha on His own. The upper worlds need the lower worlds when it comes to Halacha. A drop was sent down from Heaven and it grows in myriad ways. Even though the Prime Cause gave it to Mankind, he only gave us the raw material. The sowing and plowing are done by the workers.

When Rebbe Yochanan would come to visit mourners he would bring along a bone from his tenth child who passed away. The Baal HaSulam explains that when a person is going through a difficult time a large part of the pain she experiences is due to the thought that she is the only one in the entire world who is suffering. She feels abandoned, alone and different from all other people who are not feeling and experiencing her suffering. The feeling of being the only one can also lead to a sense of shame. By telling someone that there are others who suffer the same pain, who recognize and share her pain, that she is not alone it mitigates her pain and loneliness.

The Talmud teaches that one who places his bed between north and south will have male children. The Ramban comments that no one would be so foolish to believe that the direction of one's bed will affect the sex of his children. Rather "between north and south" is a metaphor for being in a balanced state. The Gemara is suggesting that if one wishes to have healthy children (male is understood by many to mean strong) they should be in a balanced state when engaging in procreation.
