The Gaon of Vilna is often misunderstood by those who are only aware of his opposition to Chassidus, and have not actually studied his teachings. In many ways he is more Chassidic than many Chassidim.
In his commentary of Shir HaShirim he discusses the well-known question as to why the Torah does not discuss Olam HaBa, the World to Come. He explains that the idea that when things disintegrate they return tho their source is really nothing surprising. And, therefore, the fact that the soul reunites with God posthumously is to be expected and not something which the Torah needs to explain.
What is more important to be taught is the fact that the Schechina can connect to us here on earth as a consequence of our performance of Mitzvos, an idea which is expressed in many places in Chumash .
