Dead Words

The Gemara says (Berachos 3b) that one should only speak before one who is dead words of the dead.
Rav Yitzchok Meir Morgenstern suggests that we can understand this to be referring to someone who is feeling dead inside, he is depressed and is finding no joy in life. Another person may feel that it is time to turn to Torah to bring this person out of his depression and begin to share with him one thing or another from Torah. Invariably it falls on deaf ears as there is no one listening right now. More often than not it would have been better had he said nothing at all.
The only words to say to someone who is feeling dead inside are words of the dead, words that speak to someone in such a state. Make sure you know how to speak to such a person lest your words cause more damage and push them away.
