Rav Yitzchok Isaac of Komarna wrote a fascinating commentary on Chumash which is focused to a large extent on cataloging as well as explaining those places where words appear to have superfluous, or missing letters.
He points out that the word אדמוני, red, the description of Esau at birth, has the letter ו (vov) which would seem to be unnecessary. Consistent with what he writes in numerous other places, he says that this letter is used to indicate a connection with the Divine. He points out that Esau has a connection with the other אדמוני, red person, namely Dovid HaMelech
Had he chosen, Esau, had the ability to be 1,000 times more righteous than Yaakov. Yaakov was cut from the same cloth as Moshe, but had Esau chosen to be good, he would have connected to the power of Moshiach, the power which is rooted in Dovid. He would have been (as it says by Dovid) the red one, with the good eyes.
