Double Standard

Sefer HaBris (1:2:9) is bewildered by the academics who read Aggadic statements of the Sages and pour out unlimited scorn saying that the Sages didn't know right from left and were discussing topics of which they had no knowledge. They speak of the Sages as though they were complete fools. If you try to explain to them that there are hidden concepts within the words of the Sages which were carefully couched in this ambiguous language, they refuse this explanation and continue to speak in the most disrespectful manner.

However, were they to find something perplexing in the writings of the Greek philosophers, such as Aristotle, Pythagoras, Plato or someone similar, they would exclaim, "This man is brilliant. His writings are so deep! I lack the ability to understand him as my mind is not strong enough to discern the fine point that he is making. They are calling what is good, bad, and what is bad, good.
