Zohar on God's love

לא מאסתים ולא געלתים לכלתם
In a particular town there was a neighborhood that had a terrible stench. It was the industrial area and the odor of the local tanneries polluted the air. One inhabitant of the town avoided this neighborhood like the plague. But one day he met a woman and fell in love with her. He discovered that she lived in the odours neighborhood which he had always avoided. Suddenly, rather than being repulsed by the local odor it became for him the symbol of the woman he cherished and it was as wonderful to him as any perfume he had ever smelled.

God despises sin, it creates a stench that repulses Him. But His love for His beloved is even greater than his revulsion at sin. He happily embraces them in their wrongdoing and enjoys the stench as if it were perfume, for they are His beloved.
